House Plant Answers

My house is situated so that one side gets all the sun & the other gets all shade. What types of plants would be easy to grow & maintain in those conditions?

I absolutely love Palm Majesty plants in the house, but I have really bad luck with them. Twice they died & they ended up being infested. The first had tiny worms coming from the soil, & the second had what looked like tiny microscopic bugs all over the leaves – I find that really disturbing especially because they were located in the bedroom. How do you prevent bugs from infesting the plant? I never notice anything when I first purchase the plant – the bug problem shows up way later.

From what I’ve read elsewhere it’s not a problem. But I want to double check with my specific info, they’re little tiny white mushrooms, with grayish caps. There are three or four, & they quite literally grew overnight, haha.
And I actually don’t want to get rid of them as long as I don’t have to. So if you could give me some information on them I would greatly appreciate it, I do not know much about my plants unfortunately.

i water my peace lily every week & i always stick my fingers in the water first to test the temperature. i presume i shed some skin cells in the water. every week, my epithelials go into the potted plant. do they get absorbed into the plant, & if so, to a detectable degree? just curious.

The front of my house receives direct sunlight & there is not any available shade. I have a large area for a nice flower bed but everything i plant shrivels & dies in the rough texas heat. What will not dry up but still look nice? Please do not suggest cactus. lol

i have a big bare spot on the front of my house & i thought it would be kind of neat to find a plant of some sort to climb up the front of it. i know it will take time to grow it & care for it until its big enough to fill the space i want it to. what do you think i should try?

I’ve just bought three new house plants & am trying my best to keep them alive… all my plants in the past have died on me.
I’ve heard that talking to your plants makes them grow faster/stronger. Does anyone know why this is? I really don’t know much about plants but I’m guessing it’s because of the CO2 we breathe out which helps with photosynthesis. Would it therefore be beneficial if I just blew lightly on the plants now & again instead of talking to them & try & get as much co2 on them as possible?
Also it said the plants should be placed in a semi-shaded area such as a windowsill. It also says they shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight so when there’s sun shining through the window should I move them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My husband & I are thinking about moving to an island. I was wondering if anybody out there had any kind of info for americans moving to singapore. which island is best & why? have you lived there? what are the people like? we were hoping to live in something close to a fisherman’s village, not condos & beach front houses for the tourists. native living. which bugs/plants are poisonous? any one with real EXPERIENCE living on singapore or close by island, please, any information will be useful in our research.

All my house plants now have these weird, white bugs on the leaves! It looks like they are emerging from sticky, white, fibrous nests on the leaf. They don’t move & they are about 1-2 millimeters in length with an oval body, many legs & two white antennae. What is this & what do I do?!!

looking for a fine for a good house plant. An evergreen if posible. Ive got philodendrons looking for somthing different. Sweet potato vine maybe… Any suggestions?

Mmk. So I have this house plant. It’s main area is sort of low, & it has long green leaves with white edges. They’re about 6-8 inches long. Then it has these long viny thing growing out of the center, & on the tip of each vine is a little miniature leafy thing. It has small white flowers with yellow insides. Any ideas?

How do I get it to sprout, what type of pot & soil, how much water, how much sun, how warm of a room?
I want to try growing a few plants.

We just moved into our new house in October. The previous owners didn’t like the grass in the back yard, so they cut the lawn out & reseeded. There are two large locust trees in the backyard that provide a great deal of shade, which explains the thin grass growth. I am hoping to plant some hostas & various perrenials along the foundation of our house. There is one thing that worries me though. The ground bordering the back of the house is bare, & grass is present about 1 1/2 feet from the house. It’s like a grassless border. Since grass isn’t growing there, does that mean nothing else will?

I live in Aiken, SC & I want some flowering shrubs to plant in front of my house. Unfortunately, I need something that thrives in full sun (shade only comes about 3pm). Anyone have any ideas?

I have no house plants no fruits no standing water & I have gnats like crazy. I used 9 bottles of bug bombs yesterday & it seems like I have more now than I did before I bombed the house. They are driving us crazy. My husband swears they are biting him but I haven’t had that happen to me or the kids. They just fly around all over the place. I have had tons fly in front of my face as I am typing this now. From the questions I have seen posted it seems like everyone is having a problem with these things. I asked my neighbors if they are having a problem with these damn pesty things but they said NO!!!! Then why am I?????? I need some help here people. Give me the answer!!!!

The one looks almost like a tiny peanut butter cup with three black lumps in a triangle shape in the center & the other is this funny looking brownish color. It almost looks tiny, fuzzy hills.
I tried searching for what it is but, I can’t find a thing. Would love some help. I have multiple different house plants & I don’t want this to be one of those freaky l”Lets spread every where” fungus. Thank you for your time.

I need to know light, water & heat requirements.

I need the flowers to be colorful. I want an assortment & they can’t grow more than 6 inches tall. They will be in full sun. Don’t matter if annuals or perennials. It could be a mix of both. They will be growing along the fence in front of the house where everyone can see. I usually plant marigolds. Love those. Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks.

I have several plants like Dracaena (lucky bamboo), Venus Fly Trap, & an Orchid all of which require distilled water because they are sensitive to chlorine in tap water. I also Have several fish tanks that require me to use a water conditioner to remove the chlorine & chemicals so I was wondering if I can use conditioned water (not tank water) instead of distilled water to water these plants. I’m kind of tired of buying special water just for a few plants. I’m wondering if anyone has ever tried this.
Anyone have any opinions or facts about this idea?

i have this houseplant & im trying to find out more info about it… ive been having alot of problums with gnats living in it.. i have tryed re-planting it, bug sprays, dish soap mix, not overwatering… nothing is working.. im starting to think it might be the plant attracting the gnats.. do to none of my other houseplants have this problum… the new bug spray seems to be killing the plant so.. im out of ideas on how to stop them from breeding in my house!!
